HistWar: Napoleon
The video game HistWar puts you in command of an army from the Napoleonic era: France, of course, but also Russia, Prussia, Austria, Sweden, and some of the many other nations featured in HistWar.
In real time, within a highly realistic environment where each soldier is represented by a miniature figure, this new wargame lets you explore the European theaters of operations and battlefields of the 19th century and invites you to rewrite history.
A major evolution of HistWar: Napoleon, the campaign editor, transports you to a theater of operations where winning a battle isn’t enough to win the war.
Acting at the right moment, knowing when the opponent is in trouble, and turning their retreat into a total rout … HistWar, a wargame where timing is crucial without ever becoming an arcade game.
HistWar can be played against the computer (Single-player), in Multiplayer mode via a local network or the Internet (TCP/IP) with up to 16 players divided into two sides, with players controlling all or part of the army. Play via email (PBEM) with 20- or 30-minute game sequences (turn-based) is also supported.
Tens, even hundreds of thousands of soldiers deployed in battalions (1/1 and 1/2 miniature scale, where each miniature represents 1 or 2 soldiers) are organized into regiments, brigades, divisions, and army corps, awaiting your orders and ready to carry them out.
Observe the action and plan your strategy using four display modes:
* a 2D staff map for an overview,
* a symbolic 3D map to survey the battlefield,
* a first-person 3D view attached to a unit for total immersion,
* a full 3D view simulating observation from a “hot air balloon”
Each type of infantry unit is displayed with a unique level of detail; the uniforms of colonels, battalion commanders, standard-bearers, and drummers complement those of the infantrymen—grenadiers, skirmishers, and fusiliers—with the ranks of sergeant or corporal.
Each artillery piece is accompanied by 5 or 6 artillerymen, in addition to 2 to 6 horses and the gun’s forward train. Cavalry uniforms are also widely represented: Cuirassiers, French Carabiniers, Hussars, Mounted Chasseurs, Lancers, and Cossacks in their elite or regular variants to accommodate the elite company often present in one of the squadrons.
Furthermore, distinctive colored insignia allow for precise identification of regiments.
Various factors can influence battle conditions: seasons, weather conditions such as fog, rain, or snow.
Several options allow you to customize the game rules to your liking.
The basic concept of HistWar is to place you in the role of an Army Commander, allowing you to define—with just a few mouse clicks—a precise battle plan that the AI systems managing the chain of command will execute on the battlefield by controlling your units as effectively as possible.
You can also interact directly with the command entities within the Corps for more precise control over operations, thereby assuming the role of a major general, a brigadier general, or even a colonel.
